Functional and Decorative Metal Projects

Commercial and institutional projects make up the majority of G & E Steel Inc's business. The scope of work varies but usually consists of miscellaneous metal items that are both functional and decorative. The more visible items manufactured by G & E Steel Inc include all types of steel staircases, handicap ramp railings, stainless steel cable railings, balcony railings, roof access ladders, doorframes, window guards, steel awnings, and metal pipe bollards. G & E Steel Inc also supplies many items, which are integral to a building support structure such as steel lintels, soffit supports, and rooftop unit frames. These items are usually hidden by walls and ceilings.

Maine Health Corporate Headquarters

Consigli Construction was asked to convert the 110 Free Street Building, which was originally built in the 1940s as retail space for Sears & Roebuck into a modern, multi-functional office space for Maine Health. The designs called for the middle sections of the building to be removed to create a new central atrium, requiring 450 linear feet of stainless-steel cable railings. G & E Steel Inc was hired for the project which was awarded the AGC’s Build Maine Award.

Torigan Family YMCA

The miscellaneous metal package for the Torigian Family YMCA Project was completed on time and under budget by G&E Steel Inc. The completed steel work included two sets of steel pan stairs and over three hundred feet of intricate wire mesh railings required for the interior lobby and the oval shaped elevated running track. The package also included a steel pan scissor stair which served as the focal point of the décor of the front
lobby. As you can see in the following photos, the miscellaneous steel package was completed with great precision and attention to detail.

Cypress Lofts

G&E Steel was hired to work on a huge luxury apartment complex located on Cypress Street in Brookline, MA named: “The Cypress Lofts - Phase I.” The scope of work for this project included two sets of steel pan stairs
running from the first to the fifth floor, five interior spiral staircases, one set of hot dipped galvanized exterior stairs made with bar grating treads, one large canopy frame, six steel balconies complete with railings
and stainless-steel railings for the interior lobby. The scope of work also included several hundred feet of three-line hot dipped galvanized ornamental balcony and stair railings made with monumental posts and decorated with steel rings. Despite severe time constraints, multiple design changes, and significant increases in the cost of steel and zinc throughout the course of the project, the work was completed on schedule and at no additional cost to the owner.

City View

G&E Steel was hired to replace the rusted, dilapidated fire escapes of four occupied apartment buildings located in Springfield, MA. The scope of work for the project included four sets of color galvanized steel grating steps
running from the first floor to the fifth floor, 12,500 square feet of steel grating balconies, ornamental fencing and steel grating handicap ramps with matching railings.

24 Middlesex Office Building

G&E Steel Furnished and installed all stainless steel cable railings for the lobby stairs of the 24 Middlesex office building.
